Wakelon Elementary (K – 5)

Just four miles from Ponder, Wakelon Elementary offers a Gifted & Talented program and a variety of resources to ensure student’s success. The school focuses on problem-based thinking skills, allowing students to grow collaboratively, creatively and become more effective communicators. 

Wendell Magnet Elementary School (K-5)

Wendell Magnet Elementary School, located in the heart of Wendell and just five miles from Ponder, is recognized for its focus on Design and Creative Arts. They strive to provide a relevant and engaging education supported by a diverse community engaged in dynamic learning. Cardinal Charter Academy at Wendell Falls (K – 8)

Located less than 10 miles from Ponder, Cardinal Charter Academy personalized learning based on student’s passions, interests and strengths. The school’s core is built upon a strong foundation of collaboration, differentiation and Future Ready skills.

Coming Soon: Marshburn Elementary School

Exciting news! In addition to these options, Wake County announced a new elementary school coming to Zebulon, just two miles from Ponder near the Marshburn/Lizard Lick Road intersection. Construction is underway on Marshburn Elementary School, and is expected to open for the 2029-2030 school year. Check the WCPSS website for updates as they become available.

Zebulon Gifted and Talented Magnet Middle Schools (6-8)

Located four miles from Ponder, Zebulon Gifted and Talented Magnet Middle school is known for its emphasis on Advanced Studies and STEM. Their goal is to empower young scholars with knowledge, skills and innovative mindsets because they understand that these students will shape the world of tomorrow. They strive to foster a community of forward-thinkers and future leaders.

East Wake Magnet High School (9 – 12)

East Wake Magnet High School, which is seven miles from Ponder, has a strong comprehensive curricular and extracurricular program that is tailored to meet the needs of the diverse student body. Working with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), they design an adaptive curriculum and discuss the various needs of all students. East Wake offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses and has the second-largest CTE program in the Wake County Public School System. They also offer an Academy of Life Science program offering a deeper dive for students interested in a veterinary or medical career path.
